7 Tips On How To Pray To God To Perform Miracles

7 Tips On How To Pray To God To Perform Miracles Instantly

You might wonder how to perform miracles when being encouraged to do so by certain Christian-Charismatic streams and certain Bible passages. I’d love to share some of my experiences and tips from biblical research to pray for miracles to happen.

Disclaimer: I am not writing as someone performing miracles where ever I set foot at. In fact, I have experienced me praying for healing and deliverance for others, and oftentimes nothing happened. But at the same time, I am writing as someone who experienced God’s miraculous power numerous other times in his life and continue to pray for the supernatural move of God in the life of other people.

That’s why I am going to share 7 tips, I learned in my Christian walk that helped me experience miracles through prayer.

Again they are 7 tips for prayer, not 7 ways that will ensure a miracle.

These tips can help you be in the right mindset that allows you to be more in tune with the Holy Spirit so that God will perform a miracle through you.

Let’s get into it.

1. Pray With All Your Heart

When praying for miracles or when talking to God in general you really have to put in your whole heart.

The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:13-14 “(…) you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity;”

God promises us that we will find Him if and when we pray to Him with all our hearts.

But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Deuteronomy 4:29

God does not listen to our mouth, but to our heart. If our mouth says “I pray for healing in Jesus’ name”, but our heart says “I’d rather be home watching TV”.

Guess what He listens to – your heart.

So, before you pray for a miracle, make sure you have the right attitude in your heart.

It has something to do with being right with God, being strong in faith, and walking in obedience to God.

It is about having a prepared spirit to be able to agree with the Holy Spirit about the situation to move in the supernatural – some American Christians call it: being prayed up.

I experienced some of the more powerful moves of God through my prayers when I myself was prayed up and able to wholeheartedly press in to release what God had for the person I prayed for.

2. Pray With a Cleaned Gift Of Miracles

The gift of miracles or the working of miracles is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit confirming the gospel proclaimed by Jesus and the Apostles not just in their lifetime but even until today. The working of miracles is one of the spiritual gifts described by Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:10.

It is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit for the profit of all. Every believer has the gift of working miracles through the Holy Spirit and it’s stirred up as need be. (1 Corinthians 12:7)

In other words, the working of miracles should always lead people to believe in Jesus.

That’s why miracles were recorded in the Bible so “(…) you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31, Acts 2:22)

Now, I am not going to lay out if we as Christians should or shouldn’t move in the working of miracles.

You can read more on that in my article about the gift of miracles. A little spoiler alert – According to the biblical witness I do believe that we should move in miracles. But more on that in my article.

The problem is that people get frustrated when they pray for the miraculous and nothing happens.

One reason for that could be that something is blocking the gift of miracles in you.

It could be an active sin or a past sin that you even repented of but were not yet delivered from. What I mean is an active sanctification-healing-and-deliverance process.

“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

2 Timothy 2:20-21

You are a vessel for Christ and His gospel. But the Bible clearly tells us to clean ourselves. WE need to actively clean ourselves from all dishonor so that we can become a vessel ready to be used by the Holy Spirit.

That is sanctification – a continuous process of personal healing and deliverance.

So, if there are no miracles happening in your life yet, it might be because you need to clean out that gift.

It might be blocked by fear or rebellion in your life.

Don’t worry. This is not a message of condemnation. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

It is a process that you need to initiate and follow through with the Holy Spirit.

God gives us a simple and effective key that is actively doing deliverance in our life. I have more information on that in my Healing & Deliverance Academy where I help you go from life struggles to spiritual empowerment. You should check it out.

This Youtube video sermon with deliverance prayer might also help you gain more inside and freedom for your spiritual gifts.

3. Pray With Faith In The Size Of a Mustard Seed

This tip can potentially sound more spiritually than it is actually quite practical.

Sometimes there are situations where you just have to pray in faith and trust God.

You might not be sure what He wants to do, but in obedience to Him, you just pray and see what happens. That is mustard seed faith.

It’s what the disciples learned the hard way when praying for an epileptic boy. They simply couldn’t “cure” him. (Matthew 17:14-21)

But Jesus gave them and us a key in that situation.

The obvious point He’s making is having faith like a mustard seed. But then He tries to show them that faith, just as the gift of working miracles, can be blocked or polluted by sin and its curses.

Jesus said they couldn’t cast out the demon out of that boy because of their unbelief.

They first had to be delivered from their faithlessness, unbelief, and probably some doubt, to be able to walk in the fullness of this mountain-moving mustard seed faith.

Same with you and me. We have to do deliverance in the area of any doubt and unbelief to set free the gift of faith in God.

Once you are set free, you can pray in that mustard seed faith and move spiritual mountains through prayer like never before.

4. Pray In The Name Of Jesus

The gospels are very clear about this principle. When we pray in the name of Jesus, God will answer our prayers, as long as the matter will bring fruit. (John 15:16)

God wants to perform miracles through you, but you need to be prepared to do it the way Jesus did.

How did Jesus perform miracles?

Through prayer He healed the sick, delivered the oppressed, and possessed, he made the lame walk and raised the dead. To have a closer look at that I made a detailed list of all miracles of Jesus and put them in chronological order for you. I believe this will serve you as a great resource.

Jesus is now calling you and me to follow His example He put forth when He lived on this earth.

You can do just the same miracles by asking in His name. Remember YOU can’t do anything miraculous without HIM.

Mark 16:15-19 says, “(…) these signs will follow those who believeIn My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (…) they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.

You can do these things if you only believe and ask in the name of Jesus. It’s the Holy Spirit who works miracles through you activated by your faith. (see tip 3) We are mere vessels.

I know, I know… – what about the times you prayed in faith and in the name of Jesus and seemingly nothing happened?! I will discuss just that at the end of this article.

Look what John 14:13-14 says, “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”

When we pray, we have to pray in the name of Jesus. There is no other name higher or greater than His.

He as the King of kings, God himself promised “I will do it.” when we pray that way. (Given the fact that it’s not a selfish prayer but to bring fruit for the kingdom.)

“(…) Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

5. Pray In Humility

Oh boy, even in our society can pride of any form be a major turn-off!

The same is with God and miracles.

If you remember my first tip it goes together with having the right attitude. If your attitude is prideful nothing miraculous is going to happen.

God will never bless pride. In fact, He hates pride. (Proverbs 8:13, Amos 6:8)

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

James 4:6

Only if you approach the need in humility and mindset that it’s not by your might or your power, but only by the Spirit of God – then God can use you for His kingdom.

You have to keep a humble heart before God.

The Bible is very clear in 2 Chronicles 7:14 where it says,if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked waysthen I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

That is a strong conditional promise of God: IF you humble yourself, seek God with all your heart, turning from your sin, THEN He will hear you and do mighty miracles through you!

So, get delivered from all pride.

God really wants to use you in a mighty way. He wants to build His kingdom through you. He wants to heal the sick and deliver the demon oppressed through you!

Don’t let the enemy trick you out of your blessing through pride and other sins. It is not about you or me or any of us.

It’s all about Jesus and building His kingdom here on earth through prayers of humility and boldness.

Pray In Humility

6. Pray With Boldness

Other than pride, fear also can rob you of your miracle prayers.

That’s why it is so important to pray in the true boldness of God.

You need to know that you know in the innermost core that you are a son or daughter of God (John 1:12, Romans 8:14-17, Galatians 3:26, 1 John 3:1). Therefore you have a powerful inheritance.

The power of the Holy Spirit lives inside of you (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Romans 15:13). Through Him, you are indeed more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). With God, you can leap over a wall and chase 1000 into flight (Joshua 23:10, Psalm 18:29).

You are an ambassador of Christ to this World (2 Corinthians 5:20). In other words: You are the best example of Christ to the people around you.

This statement should make you bold and put the fear of God on you at the same time.

When you encounter a demonic situation and you use the finger of God to fight back and cast out that devil by the Holy Spirit you know without a shadow of a doubt that the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Matthew 12:28, Luke 11:20)

By the way, I put together a list of 7 weapons for spiritual warfare to fight a demonic attack the right way that you definitely should check out. It will encourage you even more because it shows you how powerful God has equipped you for success already.

You have authority in Jesus. In Him, you are a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

So, what is stopping you? And don’t tell me “well, what if nothing happens?!” I am going to debunk that one just a little later below at the end of this article.

Be bold and be the key in God’s hand to someone else’s breakthrough.

There are people out there that need you – your testimony and walk with God and the gifts that God has placed in you.

Be bold and pray for the miraculous to happen today.

Pray With Boldness

7. Pray In Obedience To God

God will never bless disobedience.

Therefore He won’t bless a prayer that is not in unison with His will.

How do you know what His will is? Well, in two ways.

Firstly through His Word (the Bible). You can read His Word and stand on the promises He makes concerning praying for the miraculous.

Secondly, you can ask Him through prayer. After Jesus ascended He has poured out His Spirit on Pentecost as our helper, teacher, and advisor (Acts 1:8, Acts 2, John 14:26). Jesus said He would not leave us alone. Now we can have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. (John 14:15-31)

Therefore you can talk to Him like you would talk to Jesus and ask Him about God’s will. He will be like a still small voice or like a strong conviction in your heart guiding you.

By knowing His will you can pray in obedience to God which will release an anointing for miracles in your life.

God will not bless a prayer that is based on doubt. I mean prayers like “Lord, if it is you will, you can heal”, or “Please, Lord, make it better…”

God wants to heal, deliver, and restore every person 100% – period. He doesn’t want us to suffer and He doesn’t want us to only feel better.

God wants you to walk in the fullness of His life – every day! When you pray you need to know His promises (His Will), so you can pray in obedience and agreement with Him.

Pray In Obedience To God

What To Do When Nothing Happened

Oh boy, do I know this is a real thing.

You are at the point of actually being able to pray for a person. Now all these voices and thoughts run through your head: What if this person doesn’t get healed. What if God doesn’t show up the way I imagine/said/believe. What if this person will fall away from faith because of my prayer. Etc.

Well, what if God will show up?

I have to be honest, I am not yet at the point where miracles happen everywhere I go. I had it countless times that seemingly nothing happened when I prayed.

I use the word “seemingly” because you never know what God really did in the heart of the person, or will do to the person down the road, or maybe Holy Spirit will remind that person of that prayer and use it in the future.

Not praying is not an option.

Your job is to pray in faith, obedience, boldness, humility, flowing in your God-given spiritual gifts, with all your heart and obviously in the name of Jesus.

If you do that, it is on God to work or not to work a miracle. You did your job, that’s all God wants from you.

God wants you to step out in faith and do your part. Then He will do His part and back you up by His Holy Spirit.

What To Do When Nothing Happened
Btw, this is me stepping out in faith praying for the miraculous to happen.

I have never ever experienced God leave me standing in the rain.

But if you prayed and really nothing happened, just keep on praying for people until something happens.

That moment will come and it will be amazing.

I was told the same when I started praying for people. Little by little more and more happened in those prayer times. The more I prayed the more I also learned and grew in the Lord.

The more I prayed I actually experienced Christians and non-Christians alike being touched by God, healed, or even be delivered by demonic oppression.

Just keep on going in your healing and deliverance process of sanctification, invite the Holy Spirit, and move forward.

Sometimes you also need to pray twice for people – Jesus needed to as well when He prayed for a blind man (Mark 8:22-25). If He had to it’s okay if you do too.

You should watch Todd White’s response to this point. I think it’s really encouraging.
