You and me, we are all building a house. A temple, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:11-17. You and I, when we decided to live with Christ, became the temple of God. His Holy Spirit lives inside of us now.
In this temple, Christ is our foundation. And every day we are adding building blocks on top of that foundation creating a building that basically forms our character, personality, and our life.
But we have to be careful. There are building blocks that are made of hay, straw, and wood which represent things like pride, selfishness, worldly possessions, love of money, etc. But there are also good blocks. Blocks made of gold, silver, and precious stones. These symbolize our time with God, reading the Bible, building the kingdom, etc.
God’s fire will reveal what we filled God’s temple with, what building material we used. It will burn away what can not last the test of God’s eternity.

One day death will finalize this building. Then adding or adjusting, or even taking away is not possible anymore. It all will be over. And we will either stand strong, or we will be saved as through the fire, as Paul says (1 Corinthians 3:15).
In the morning I journaled about this topic, my 4-year-old son crawled up into my bed munching on his grapes. I thought, what a great opportunity. So, I explained this principle to him in the simplest way I could figure. He listened patiently. When I was done he promptly asked if he could watch his show on my phone.
*sigh* Kids…
So, what building material are you using? What growth plan do you have for your life? What outlook on building the kingdom do you have? How’s your life going, anyway? Anything that needs to be adjusted?
I for me know, there is still a lot to do in my personal life. Thank God for forgiveness and a possibility to turn. There is still time for healing, deliverance, restoration. Let’s not wait. Let’s get the fire of God in us burning!
